VisSim is an easy program to pick up and use, and it’s easy to get
more sophisticated the longer you use it. Now, because we have such
a detailed, scaleable and dynamic model, the new plant may achieve
full rates earlier than would have otherwise been possible. And for
an operation like INEOS Chlor, saving a few days alone will justify
the spend on the simulator software. By extensive use of the
simulator we’re maximising our chances of a quick, safe and
efficient start to production. It also enables us to train the
operators whilst the new cell is still being built

VisSim™ lets you do easily model small and large systems. This
ability, coupled with very
 fast
efficient operation, lets you run high fidelity models in real-time.
When combined with VisSim/OPC
or analog I/O add-ons,
this means that you can run your plant model against real-world inputs
from a PLC or DCS. This allows you to tune controllers off-line,
shortening commissioning time. It also lets you perform off-line
operator training.
Perform Operator Training
Once you
have a good high fidelity plant model running in real-time, you can use
the OPC interface to connect to your PLC/DCS HMI to perform operator
training. The modeling interface allows you to easily inject fault
conditions to test operator response to extreme operating conditions. A
new VisSim 6.0 feature allows automatic state checkpointing to allow
operators to restart from any prior checkpointed state. This allows you
to explore the effect of different responses to a given situation.
Another new feature is real-time scaling. This allows the modeler to
speed up or slow down the simulation speed for instructional purposes.
For instance, a week of normal operation could be covered in an hour or
two.
